Leader of the Life Course Outcomes Program at Drexel University’s AJ Drexel Autism Institute. My research on autism life course outcomes, combined with my accomplishments translating and disseminating research findings for lay and policymaker audiences, position me to contribute effectively to this proposed research project. I am a national expert on services and systems of care for people on the autism spectrum – with a particular focus on the transition to adulthood. My studies have examined the prevalence and course of autism as well as policies and services for people with autism and their families. These have appeared in high-impact journals. Five of my studies have earned national recognition as being among the most significant annual advances in autism services research. I have been the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on many federal and foundation grants. Currently, I am the co-PI of the HRSA-funded Autism Transitions Research Project. My work has directly informed national policies including several GAO reports, the CARES Act and WIOA. In 2016, I launched my Transition Pathways Initiative – a growing collection of community-based, systems-change projects aimed at improving the system of supports and opportunities related to employment for inner-city youth with autism in Philadelphia.
